Oh how I loved this book! It was a fantastic read and I encourage you to read it! If you love Steel Magnolias, The Secret to Hummingbird Cake delivers the same laughter and tears and just as well. It is full of charm, love, true friendship, and wonderful storytelling. I laughed out loud so many times. Author Celeste McHale has penned an unforgettable novel that I hope one day will make it to the big screen.

The Secret of Hummingbird Cake is about a friendship between three woman who are so similar to my own friends. McHale writes these ladies true to life. They are full of flaws and and imperfections. Carrigan, Ella Rae, and Laine have been friends for a lifetime. They have seen each other through the difficult high school years, an elopement, and now a troubled marriage. Laine is the the pillar of the group. She loves everyone around her and is wise beyond her years. Carrigan is a hot mess and Ella Rae is her enabler. These women make quite a group and I loved reading their story!

My only warning to a sensitive reader is that McHale writes about real problems and real women. One character in particular has an occasional potty mouth. I found it hilarious and appropriate to the storytelling. Do not let other reviewers dissuade you from reading this book. I loved it and I highly recommend it.
